Saxophonist Jan Maksimovičius and pianist Dmitrii Golovanov's musical dedication to the genius of M.K. Čiurlionis, whose piano preludes intertwine with the improvisations of the jazz musical tandem nurtured and perfected for two decades.
More than 100 years have passed since the death of M.K. Čiurlionis , his work is still a source of inspiration for many artists. The beauty, fragility and greatness of the music of the Lithuanian genius will be revealed by two masters of improvisational music - Dmitrijus Golovanovas and Janas Maksimovičius.
In this improvisational interpretation of Čiurlionis, the performers consciously refuse jazz stereotypes, and instead operate with elements of authentic Čiurlionis music. In some places, the finished works are expanded and developed into larger forms, and in some places the motifs of Čiurlionis' music become a springboard for the performers' intellect into the world of Čiurlionis symbols and fantasies.
,We have been performing and examining Čiurlionis' music for a long time. In the beginning, it was the intention to modernize and actualize Čiurlionis. However, in the long run we noticed that we did not change Čiurlionis, but he changed us. Our thinking, performance, understanding of music - everything changed as we got to know Čiurlionis more and more deeply", - says D. Golovanov.
Both musicians are one of the most outstanding improvisational music and jazz performers in the country, both have many concerts on the most important stages of the country in their biographies. endless collaborations with foreign artists and a wide geography of foreign concerts, but the most important thing for them is live musical communication with the listener "here and now". experiencing every second and the music being born right there, in which the listener also becomes a participant.
