Zombie Easter is back: a reincarnation of passion and chaos for fans of extreme music

When the New Year arrives, some are still in the festive mood, while others are looking further afield. And announces the happy news: "Zombie Easter'2025" is back! And this time the celebration will be truly extraordinary, loud and memorable - even four groups will again shake the walls of Vilnius club "Vakaris" in such a way that it will not be easy!

The first of the event "Zombie Easter'2025 participants and headliners - the famous Ukrainian band "White Ward", playing experimental black metal, which closely intertwines with various unexpected stylistic admixtures, such as dark-jazz, retrowave, neo-folk and even post-punk. Established in 2012 and starting their career as a raw depressive black metal band, White Ward quickly began to expand their musical boundaries, drawing inspiration from a variety of dark environments, including the works of Howard Lovecraft, the films of David Lynch, and the Silent Hill video game series. The group's early recordings were compiled on the compilation "Origins", which was released in 2016. even before the release of the debut album.

First full-length album Futility Report (2017) was released on the French label Debemur Morti Productions and was immediately recognized by critics and dark metal fans around the world. Exploring the themes of transitional states of death, abnormal afterlife and mental disorders, White Ward developed a unique post-black metal sound, interweaving deep emotional soundscapes and atmospheric dark-jazz with perfectly integrated saxophone motifs.

The group continued to develop in different directions and in 2019 released a second album called "Love Exchange Failure", which received astonishing recognition. The aesthetic of dark jazz became brighter and deeper than before, while the elements of blackened death metal and progressive black metal became insanely intense and complex thanks to the special skills of the new drummer. In the lyrics of the album, the musicians delve into more mundane and less abstract dimensions, plunging into the abyss and horror of the human psyche in the conditions of modern metropolitan life.

2021 m. White Ward have released two new songs on Debemur Morti Productions to celebrate the 200th anniversary of their release. The new mini-album "Debemur Morti" is a continuation of the band's progressive black metal experiments. In the composition of the same name, Lars Nidland - the composer, vocalist and keyboardist of the cult Norwegian band "Borknagar" sang as a guest. And a year later, in June 2022, White Ward, despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine, released their third album "False Light", where they combined and interwoven even more different dark elements into one whole. "False Light" is a monumental record from an already widely known band, skillfully giving form to the fear of the big city, a general sense of hopelessness, drawing inspiration from the work of the famous Ukrainian writer of the early 20th century, Mykhail Kotsyubynskyi.

The second participant of the event is "Mandragora", veterans of Lithuanian melodic death metal and one of the most prominent representatives of this style. Since 1998 the living collective has 3 demo recordings and 3 studio albums in its discography, the last of which "[d]Æscend" was released at the height of the pandemic. The group has held a number of performances in our and neighboring countries, the most memorable of which are concerts with "Insomnium", "Dismember", "Overkill" and representing their country W.O.A. in the festival competition "Wacken Metal Battle" in 2008. Mandragora is currently rehearsing with a renewed line-up and promises new music premieres from the group's upcoming album before the event.

Third , but not the last guest of the spectacle - death metallers "Griefgod", well known to Lithuanian heavy music fans as representatives of our country at the festival in Germany W.O.A. and Wacken Metal Battle 2024 contestants. The group started making music in 2016 as "Gilzeh", and emerged from the underground in 2020 with the EP "Torture". After updating their line-up and sound in 2023, they became Griefgod. The band is tight-lipped and describes their sound as a mix of old-school death metal and modern gear. Missing information? Tune in to the singles '45 Years Of Tremor' and 'Anguish', perfectly capturing the new face and sound of Griefgod.

Like the cherry on the cake of the event - the group "Death in Taiga", presenting dark and atmospheric sounds to the Lithuanian metal scene. Inspired by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago, the group chose a name that reflected their unyielding and harsh attitude towards the world around them. Their debut single "ROT" was released in 2021. on April 20, at the same time marked the beginning of the band's musical journey. With four singles and their debut album "Insight//Frenzy", they have created a sound that combines deathcore, hardcore and black metal influences, enriched by intense experiments with electronic elements and self-recorded samples. Like the other two participants of the event from Lithuania, in 2023 the group "Death in Taiga" honorably represented Lithuania at the "Wacken Metal Battle" competition in Germany. Their music and lyrics convey a theme of the supernatural intertwined with deeply human aspects and transcending the limits of intensity and expression.
