William Basinski, one of the most prominent creators of contemporary ambient and experimental music, is embarking on an exclusive tour of European churches this autumn. On September 25, Friday, at 8:00 p.m., the artist will perform for the first time in Vilnius - St. Catherine's Church.
The composer, who has been working in New York and California for more than three decades, is famous for his hypnotic soundscapes that merge analog tape loops, reflections of the flow of time, echoes of memory and melancholic atmosphere. An artist with a classical musical education uses outdated technologies and magnetic tapes in his work, thus creating a unique sound that explores the sense of temporality.
William Basinski gained the widest international recognition with the monumental four-part album The Disintegration Loops, which became a classic of contemporary ambient music. The music magazine Pitchfork included this work among the 50 best albums of 2004, and the deluxe edition that appeared in 2012 received the highest score and was recognized as the best edition of the year.
During his career, the artist collaborated with many visual artists and theater directors. His music was featured in director Robert Wilson's opera The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, with Anohni as music director. The piece was presented at the Manchester International Festival and later toured Europe and North America.
Orchestral interpretations of The Disintegration Loops have been performed at venues such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Queen Elizabeth Hall and festivals in Europe, Australia and the US.
Currently, William Basinski presents his latest work On Time Out of Time, a hypnotic and meditative sonic journey that is particularly attuned to the sacred. spaces. Upcoming concert St. Catherine's Church promises to become one of the most unique autumn musical events in Vilnius.
