Music from the movie "Villagers" is a multimedia concert where you will see paintings come to life and hear unusual music, Łukasz L.U.C. Created by Rostkowski for the screen adaptation of Reymont's painting The Peasants, Poland's candidate for the Oscar. It is an interdisciplinary performance that presents a wide range of music originating from Eastern Europe.
Władysław Reymont, using simple peasant language and expressions, created a rich, epic and extremely colorful work of the highest level in linguistic terms. L. U. C. relied on this concept and, using only classical folk instruments, created a wonderful, developed folk-inspired film, classical and trance music.
Here the naturalism of the sound meets the impressionism of the arrangement. The project reveals unusual instruments and their natural, historical sound. However, the presentation and articulation of the music is contemporary. The tuba often sounds like a dubstep bass synthesizer Moog. Wheeled lyres, traditional drums, wind instruments, accordions, Plock fiddles, flutes, trombone marinas, Greater Poland bagpipes and, of course, singing create a magical landscape, complemented by remixed animation scenes, animated paintings and stills revealing the making of the film.
Contemporary arrangement, rhythm and meter allow a new discovery of various folk instruments. The old forms and structures of the works are changed and reinterpreted. REBEL BABEL FILM ORCHESTRA uses both a typical three-part rhythm, with mazurka rhythms, with dominant two-bar phrases using a rubato tempo, with a dance function, as well as simple beats and even meter such as polkas.
This exclusive for the needs of the project, a special transcultural REBEL BABEL FILM ORCHESTRA big band was assembled, to which many great musicians, extremely closely related to Polish old music, were invited.
This unusual project reveals the history and richness of Polish and other Slavic ethnographic groups , beauty and abundance. Presents to the world Polish folk music originating from the Poles, Mazurians and Polish-Seraj tribes of Greater Poland and Lesser Poland, hooking Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian and Serbian motifs. This music stirs the heart, stirs the imagination and emotions. With its expressiveness and simplicity, combined with surprising solutions, it remains in the memory and forms an interesting summary of music of Slavic origin.
