The "Disappeared Shtetl" emerging like a mirage from the fog is one of the most awaited museums in Lithuania in recent years. Along with it, the word "shtetl" is revived in our language. In Yiddish, it means small town, which is how the Jews called their places of residence. However, these were the same towns where Lithuanians also lived. One of the more than 200 shtetls was Šeduva.
What was, is sensitively and aesthetically revealed by the Museum of the "Disappeared Shtetl". More than a hundred people, from Šeduva to Hollywood, worked on this exceptional work, distinguished by both its architecture and creative solutions. Their main goal, as well as that of us accompanying you, is for the story of at least one person from Šeduva to find a place in your memory.
During this full-day excursion Vilnius-Šeduva-Vilnius, we will get to know not only the "Disappeared Shtetl" in the museum, but also Šeduva itself - its buildings, streets, signs, testifying to the lives cut short. During the tour, we draw lines between the past and the present, between the living and the dead, between ourselves and the other.
We will also visit the old Šeduva Jewish cemetery - one of the few surviving witnesses that speak of the prosperous community. The Park of Remembrance, a living memorial created by Italian landscape architects, honoring the memory of the Jews of Šeduva, will also leave an impression.
During the trip, we will have lunch according to the recipes of Jewish cuisine: we will taste bagels with forshmak, hummus, salmon and vegetables. From morning to night, we will be accompanied by stories, memories, sounds and tastes that help us not only to understand, but also to feel.
Experiential tour program:
8:00 departure from Vilnius "Acropolis" parking lot. The bus will be waiting behind queues 1-9 (we will send information with the bus number before the excursion). The bus leaves on time, so it is very important not to be late. Excursion in the Museum of the "Disappeared Shtetl", Memorial Park, Šeduva Jewish Cemetery. Bagel tasting at the Molinė solnaļľa homestead. Excursion in Šeduva. ~20:45 return to Vilnius. The price includes: trip Vilnius-Šeduva - Vilnius, guided tour on the bus, excursion in Šeduva, excursion of the "Disappeared Shtetl" and bagel tasting.
