We invite you to take a trip in time - to see the 16th century. commemorating the regalia of the rulers of Lithuania and Poland, as well as getting to know the dramatic history of the treasure of the Vilnius Cathedral, from its hiding in 1655, 1939 and 1991. until the discoveries in 1931, 1985 and 2024.
In the dungeons of Vilnius Cathedral in 2024. the regalia of the tombs of King Aleksandars Jogailaitis, Queens Elzbieta Habsburgaitė and Barbora Radvilaitė were discovered: crowns, scepters and the apple of power. These values were brought to light for the first time in 1931, after a particularly strong flood of the Neris and Vilnius rivers that hit Vilnius. In 1939, with the outbreak of the Second World War, when it was not possible to safely evacuate the treasure's valuables, the Cathedral itself became their most reliable hiding place.
On the tour, we will look at the echoes of the treasure discoveries and the circumstances of the hiding. You will find out what the grave insignia placed in the royal tombs symbolized, you will also get to know other 2024 events. valuables found in the secret place: jewelry of queens, testifying to the craftsmanship of Renaissance goldsmiths, a set of jewelry stones, Vilnius Cathedral's St. Casimir's chapel with panels and votives.
The duration of the tour is 1 hour.
The price of the excursion is 1 EUR + visitor ticket (10 EUR, with a discount of 5 EUR).
