This is a solo performance , inspired by Karol Zbyszewski's PhD thesis Niemcewicz from Front and Back (1939), is the story of the last Polish king, Stanislaus Poniatowski, told by different people, from the king's courtiers to Empress Catherine of Russia II. This is a story whose relevance is revealed in today's realities.
The monodrama focuses on 18th century Poland just before the collapse of the country. In the novel, written on the basis of his doctoral thesis, Karol Zbyszewski satirizes the politicians of the opposing camps, the clergy, the army, not outdoing the king and Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, the author of the first Polish political comedy "The Return of the Deputy" (Powrót posła, staged in 1791). Zbyszewski mocks excessive drinking, laziness, indiscretion, fondness for empty slogans and gestures, fake religiosity, political mistakes and other vices, highlighting the responsibility of the whole society for the divisions of Poland. This stage adaptation of Zbyszewski's novel presents a panorama of the macabre world of madmen described by the author, ruled by the main character - the king.
Actor Mateusz Nowak won the "Best Young artist" award at the international theater festival "Saint Muse" in Mongolia, the prize for the best male role at the international monodrama festival "Albamono" in Albania, the special prize at the international monodrama festival "Thespis" in Germany.
