Spektaklis-impresija is based on the intriguing story of the writer's fate: although many of her letters have survived, there are none addressed to the person closest to her - priest Kazimier Bukantas, whom she met in her youth and in whose neighborhood she lived a considerable period of her life in Židikai. It is said that before her death, the writer ordered her sister to burn her letters and diaries...
Birutė Mar:
"The greatest impression from the journey in the footsteps of M.Pečkauskaitė-Šatrija Ragana was once a visit to the Židikai cemetery in Žemaitija. We drove then on the "Shatrija Ragana's path" - around the towns where she lived, we read her works there, we made music Maria's grave is in the Židikai cemetery. And right next to Fr. The grave of Kazimierz Bukantos - the man with whom he spent most of his monastic life. There are experiences that are hard to describe. I remember when we were praying at her grave, suddenly such a strong wind arose - it seemed that some kind of anxiety was hovering over us. The first thought: Maria's soul is restless, as if it wants to say something... I was shaking all over, even after returning home, before I started writing. I don't know what to call it. Like HER LETTER. Unwritten. Later I found out that Maria herself wrote letters from fictional people in her youth.
It's been a long time since those experiences, but... I often remember this experience. And Shatriya Witch's personality became very close. Now it's time to tell about it on stage."
The play "Unwritten Letter" was inspired by the life and work of the writer, pedagogue, philanthropist Marija Pečkauskaitė-Šatrija Ragana (1877-1930). The landlady who grew up in the Užvenčia estate, inspired by the teacher Povilas Višinskis, became a passionate nurturer of Lithuania. After returning to Lithuania after studying at the universities of Zurich and Friborg (where she studied ethics and pedagogy as a free student), she taught at Pavandenes dvar (Kelmės district), distributed Lithuanian books, founded the "Birutė" bookstore, which operated for a while in Vilnius, and headed the Marijampolė pro-gymnasium. She spent the last 15 years of her life in Židikai, where her most famous works "The Tragedy of Irka", "The Old Manor", "The Blue Maiden" and others were born. Here, he devoted a lot of time to charity, education of the town's residents, and took care of the sick and the poor. During her funeral at the Židikai cemetery, the pastor Canon Morkys (Mary's confessor) said: "Today we are burying the saint here...".
