Eye of the Storm

Dance performance

The play "Eye of the Storm" explores the universal laws of chaos and order. It is a performance by the French choreographer Rachid Ouramdane, head of the Chaillot National Dance Theater in France, created together with the Sheikh Dance Theater. In the piece, the choreographer uses the movement of organized and anarchic groups. R. Ouramdan is inspired by parades, riots, demonstrations and flocks of flying birds. In this way, the ever-changing images of order and chaos are found on the scene. These images, and especially the moments of transition from one state to another, which create parallels with the processes of today's societies, resonate in the context of the pandemic world, and the dancers become a metaphor for a chaotic being governed by universal rules. Like a surge of energy, a rotating kaleidoscope, the performance draws the viewer into an almost hypnotic state - as if watching the eye of a storm formed from clouds, thunder and rain.

Rachid Ouramdane has been creating art projects since 1995. Since 2010 until 2015 worked at the Theater "Théâtre de la ville" (Paris) from 2005 to 2015. - "Bonlieu scène nationale" (Ansi). Constantly invited to collaborate with the Lyon Opera and Ballet Theater ("Superstars", 2006; "All around", 2014), worked with the Russian dance troupe "Migrazia" (residency in Siberia and the project "Intradance" ("Borscheviks... a true story. .."), 2010), as well as with the Candoco Dance Company (Great Britain) troupe's 20th anniversary project with disabled dancers ("Looking back", 2011) and others. Since Rachid Ouramdane founded the L'A dance troupe, his performances are based on the experience of working with filmmakers and authors. 2016-2021 R. Ouramdane headed the National Dance Center of Grenoble, and from 2021 April is the director of Chaillot National Dance Theater. In addition to creative projects, R. Ouramdane participates in international research learning and management exchange workshops in France, Romania, the Netherlands, Brazil, and the USA.

The dance performance "Eye of the Storm" is part of the French-Lithuanian creative cooperation program "KlaipėDAnse", which has been running since 2017.
