Drama dance performance "MINDAUGAS" is a patriotic, dynamic and energetic project dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the writer J. Marcinkevičius. The director and choreographer of the play, Marija Simona Smolskienė, talks about one of her most beloved productions, always emphasizing that it is acceptable to both young and old generations. All the artists of "Mindaugos" are fiery, full of youthful temperament, which enchants even her! The performers deal with historical issues as if they were still relevant today. The creative team will present a contemporary revival of the two-part drama poem "Mindaugas" by one of the most famous poets of the country, Justinas Marcinkevičius.

The person of Mindaugas, the image of the ruler and the history of the creation of the foundations of the state are revealed by the team assembled by the young generation director Marija Simona, from all over Lithuania, in their own way. interpreting the work of J. Marcinkevičius, which has already become a classic. The new "Mindaugas" production will combine ballet, visual projections (by Rimas Sakalauskas), impressive lighting (Mantas Bartusevičius) and music specially created for this production (Comp. Mykolas Natalevičius).

This "Mindaugas" – active, mobile, visual, plastic and temperamental. The poem was written during the years of Soviet oppression (1968). This means that J. Marcinkevičius could not write as he wanted. And this is especially felt in the poem. The text is written conservatively, without jumping out, carefully. We want to free the actions stuck in the text of J. Marcinkevičius, which the writer could not afford to realize, but diplomatically adhering to the genius of the text. The author could not bend the stick, because the government at that time would have banned the realization of the work. Therefore, the creative team of the project, while staging this play, wanted to reveal the truth that is endlessly felt "between the lines" in the poem, in the relationships and actions of the heroes. According to the director, the goal of the performance is to attract the young generation of viewers. The heroes of J. Marcinkevičius' poem are mature men in their 50s and 60s, but Marija Simona decided to gather a young team of artists. 14 young men and one woman - Marta (Aleksandra Metalnikova) - play the roles in the play. Professional dancers of the Baltic Ballet Theater also dance in the project.

The main feature of the stage design will be mobile red stairs leading to heaven, crown, glory, justice (Scenographer Erlandas Smolskas). The director reveals that the main scenery will be multifunctional. The grand staircase will become not only a throne, but also an organ. Specially created video installations will give uniqueness to the scenography of the performance. With multiple project partner Rimus Sakalauskas, Marija is always looking for a symbol in dramaturgy, presenting it in an impressive, modern, understandable and visually appealing way, especially for the young generation of today. The music for the modern performance is composed by the composer Mykolas Natalevičius, whose work combines folklore and organ electronic syntheses. Despite the modern attire of the artists, the director of the performance tries to follow the contours of the poem written by J. Marcinkevičius. The audience will see the complete work, the subject of which is relevant even today. "The play tells about the current affairs of our time. Now we, as Lithuanians of the 13th century, divided by our peoples and lands, do not dare to unite. Although in terrible ways, Mindaugas tried to unite all of Lithuania. Did he succeed? I think so. In the chronicles, it is written in many places that Lithuanians are an extremely patient, strong, powerful and fighting nation. I want this performance to inspire the generation of "instagramers" and "tiktokers" to be more determined, not passive. I want us to unite and fight for Lithuania - the way Mindaugas wanted to see it, the way we want to see it now and in the future of our children," said the director of the play.
