The play "Outside the Door" is presented by the debuting director Inga Jarkova at the Šiauliai Drama Theater. A young student of G. Padegima presents to the audience a delicate story about people's need to communicate and their inability to communicate. V. Veršulis' play "Behind the door" in 2007 became the favorite of the national dramaturgy festival "Versmė". This play together with "Žaltis suite" and "Lifte" form a kind of dramatic triptych, extending the tradition of Kazis Saja's parabolic drama.
The name of the author of the play, Virgilijaus Veršulis, is well known to those who follow the pulse of contemporary Lithuanian drama. In the context of the new Lithuanian drama, his plays are distinguished by the unusualness of the dramatic situation and genre searches. The play "Behind the Door", which was originally interpreted by a young director, a graduate of Klaipėda University, Inga Jarkova, is no exception.
In the play, two people of different generations communicate through a door that does not open. The plot of the play consists of a dialogue between Senis, who never opens his door, and his son's beloved Eme, who lives in the stairwell. The gradually developing rapprochement of people who are strangers to each other seems to promise a happy finale, but, as often happens, the door opens too late... The youthful style of the debuting director and the skill of the experienced actor Juoz Bindok instantly draw you into a multi-faceted act of survival and openness between two people.
"Outside the door" is a great choice for viewers who miss original Lithuanian dramaturgy, fresh directorial style and subtle acting.
