Dance performance "Meat Factory" based on Yaroslav Melnik's novel "Masha, or post-fascism"
The rise of fascist ideas in Russia, the war In Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, the intensification of extreme right-wing parties in Western Europe - anxiety about the crisis of humanism in the context of recent geopolitical events encourages the search for a more complex expression of artistic language that raises fundamental questions about humanity. The dance theater "Okarukas" together with the Panevėžys theater "Menas" presents the dance performance "Meat Factory" based on the novel "Maša, or post-fascism" by Jaroslav Melnik.
During the performance of "Meat Factory" the story of the transformation of the downstream propagandist Dima is told through body language - from a dehumanized farmer who slaughtered human-like animals (fat) kept in a barn without thinking, to a man , who fell in love with one of them - Masha, and risked his life opposing the established dictatorship.
The performance is created in the way of physical theater, modern dance with elements of butoh and flamenco, and intense action on stage typical of performance art, using electronic music, vocals, lights and cinematic video projections.

The performance "Meat Factory" examines today's topical issues, which are important to identify and refine the most important European values - human dignity and equality. Examining the concepts of democracy and freedom, the play raises questions - what is the essence of humanity, under what circumstances does cruelty and totalitarianism take hold and how can it be resisted.
In the opinion of the author of the novel and the creators of the show, every truth is shocking, so our consciousness resists accepting the truth. We live in a cruel world, and the vocation of art is to show that cruelty honestly. After experiencing the shock, we become deeper and a light turns on in the soul.
It is important to mention that during the performance, intensive light and sound installations are used, the effects of which may affect people who are more sensitive or suffer from epilepsy. The performance is marked N-18 and recommended for adults.
The creation and distribution of "Meat Factory" is partially financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture, partners - Panevėžys Culture Center, public relations agency "Integrity PR". .
Co-production with the dance theater "Okarukas".
