About the play: "I am a doctor"

Director Žilvinas Beniušis presents a modern interpretation of Molière's classic comedy full of humor on the stage of Marijampolės cultural center. This is also the first performance of the new troupe in this theater. For the audience of Marijampolė, this comedy is a great opportunity to get to know a troupe that radiates youthful maximalism, fresh creative air and love for the theater.

The plot of the play takes us into an absurd confusion: Sganarelis, a simple banana seller, is supported by a miracle doctor due to his vengeful wife Martina's deception and brought to the house of the rich Žerontos to treat his daughter Lucinda, which suddenly lost its promise. Having no understanding of medicine, Sganarelis, using absurd treatment methods and a fictional Latin language, turns everyone's heads and begins to successfully "treat" those who believe more in beautiful words than reality.

In the hands of director Žilvins Beniushis, Molière's classic, interpreted in the rhythm of modern clowning and circus, turns into an open, adventurous, full of physical humor, energetic and a colorful theater dedicated to those who miss quality laughter, acting skills and accurate social irony.

"I am a doctor" is a reminder that the theater is a place that, at least for a while, invites you to "take off your masks" and laugh at your lust, greed or the desire to appear better than you are.

"I am a doctor" heals not with medicine, but with laughter and medicine as a reminder: let's not overdo it!
