St. THE SPY, a two-part play based on Quentin Tarantino's The Frightful Eight
With the recent outbreak of the American Civil War, a group of suspicious characters become stranded in a remote roadside inn during a blizzard. Among them are the new sheriff Chris Menix who is coming to the town, the criminal Daisy Domergiu, John Rut nicknamed "Koriku" who is taking her to exchange for a reward and a company of strangers. The fateful passengers diligently hide their identities, relationships and true intentions, causing tension and mortal danger for all those trapped in this place. Will anyone survive the night of the spy?
The joint work of Aleksandar Špilevojaus and the rock band "Colours of Bubbles" in the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater was inspired by the director's and musicians' great love for Quentin Tarantino's work. According to A. Špilevojaus, when he was interested in this artist, he learned that one of his favorite films, "The Hateful Eight", was hanging in the balance when his script was leaked. It was decided to cancel the filming, but so that the work would not go in vain, readings were arranged in one of the theaters in Los Angeles. After receiving extremely positive reviews, the artist decided to return to filmmaking. "After getting acquainted with this story, I realized that I would really like to see such a play in the theater. Since I am not sure if Q. Tarantin will ever implement this idea, I decided to create the play myself," says A. Špilevoj with a laugh.
"In this material, together with the actors, we discover not America and not the 19th century, but ourselves, our time, our country, our problems, the questions that are relevant to us, our unfulfilled hopes. "St. Speig" is no longer a Q. Tarantino film, it is a story we are creating about a Man." Q. Tarantino set himself the task of creating a tragicomic story without a single positive hero. I don't want to say that all people on Earth are bad, but we have to admit that we are far from holy, so in this play we will see sinful humanity confronting the brightest ideas of humanism, love, freedom. I wonder who will win in the end?", says the director.
The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
