Willy Russell FOR WOMEN AND THEIR HUSBANDS, a two-part play based on Willy Russell's play "Shirlė Valentain"
Once an independent woman, now Shirlė Valentain is a housewife in a so-called midlife crisis. She spends most of her life between four walls, mostly alone: the children are grown and spread out, and her husband spends most of his time at work. Shirley Valentain lives in the memories of what she was and is stuck in a daily routine, domestic quarrels with her husband, and her best conversationalist is the kitchen wall. When her friend, who won the lottery, is about to go to Greece, Širlė takes the opportunity and goes together. During the trip, she begins to see herself and the world around her with different eyes, so she decides to change her life.
The play "For Women and Their Men" is based on the famous English playwright Willy Russell's play "Shirlė Valentine" (1986). The works of this author are performed on the most important stages of the world's theaters, are screened and have won various awards.
The monoplay "For Women and Their Husbands" is the story of a woman's life and self-discovery. As the play's director and actress Ligita Kondrotaitė states, "The situation discussed in the play is often recognizable to the woman. Even more often we deny it: it will definitely not happen to us. You can call it a comedy, but this comedy will not only cause laughter. And yet, it is a drama with a very good ending and subtle humor."
This incredibly fun and engaging play, already referred to as a modern classic, became a real sensation on the stages of London and New York theaters, won the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award as the best new comedy, and the actress Pauline Collins - an Oscar nomination for the role of the leading actress in Lewis Gilbert's film "Shirley Valentine" (1989). On the stage of the Juoz Miltinis Drama Theater, the work became a memorable benefit of the talented actress Ligita Kondrotaitė.
