Ronald Harwood THE DRESSER two-part play
Could there be anything more colorful, more passionate and more dramatic, more exhausting, but at the same time more uplifting than the life of an actor? Is there another profession in the world that permeates and controls a person's life like this? The actor is the god of the stage, the conqueror of the audience's hearts, but at the same time he is also a joker, a clown, as if begging for the audience's love and attention...
"Aprengejas" invites you to travel to England in the 1940s and take a look at the tragicomic, preparing for the performance the evening of the actor Sir and his dresser Norman. The era of the Second World War marks the end of the era of groups performing Shakespeare's works - young men leaving for the war field abandon the troupes, and the lack of actors becomes a challenge for the chief actor and theater manager. Sir is one of them. While the bombs are flying over the theater and the fallen actor is struggling to keep up with his surroundings, Norman, Sir's long-time assistant, is determined to keep the theater alive, but is he destined to succeed? and conversations and swear words of characters full of deep love for the theater. This wildly funny and profoundly touching work is still considered to be one of the greatest portraits of theater life.
