Panevėžys Musical Theater presents the second premiere of the anniversary season - the legendary musical "Nine Tables" by Giedrias Kuprevičius and Kazios Sajas. The performance is dedicated to the 80th birthday of National Culture and Art Prize laureate composer Giedrias Kuprevičius and to the 50th anniversary of the first musical production (1974) at the Panevėžys Drama Theater.

That production was directed by Vaclovas Blėdis, the most famous actors of the Panevėžys Drama Theater trained by Juoz Miltinis acted in it, the scenography was created by Vitalijs Mazūrs, the choreography was by Česlovas Žebrauskas. The hugely popular performance lasted until 1986.

"I am happy to be able to contribute to the production of G. Kuprevičius's musical "Devynbėdžiai" at the Panevėžys Musical Theatre. K. Saja's text speaks to us about the alienation of people, putting one's self and material benefit above ordinary humanity. Individual versus community, own versus stranger, humanity versus beastliness, God versus idol: every viewer will hear something that is especially relevant for our day, I believe it is wonderful G. Kuprevičius' music and K. Saja's text will sound new this time," says conductor Imantas Jonas Šimkus.

"Devynbėdžius" tells about a mystical Lithuanian village living peacefully and happily, until an unusual "guest" stumbles into it - the bull Klemens. Unexpectedly, conflicts erupt, different viewpoints emerge, determining the relationship between man and community, the clash of values. According to the director of the play, J. Kuprevičius , “this work's themes of alienation, humanity, and selfishness conflict, always relevant in any period of society".

The performance not only combines the historical heritage of Lithuanian musical theater with the vision of modern theater, but also invites the audience to immerse themselves in a sincere fairy tale for adults full of allegories and unexpected characters.
