POTATO METAPHYSICS

"Potato Metaphysics" is a philosophical tragicomedy about home, loss and the endless search for meaning. This is a play directed by Orest Razum, the winner of the project "(Ne)Rezervuota", on the themes of Panevėžys.

After the death of the father, the family faces an absurd problem - it turns out that he cannot be buried in the family grave. This curiosity throws grieving loved ones off track. The son who returned from Vilnius, a philosophy student, disagrees with his brother, who stayed in Panevėžys, about how to bury his father. Meanwhile, the mother, drowned in domesticity and the fatigue of mourning, tries to maintain the illusion of stability, and her brother's fiancee begins to doubt her future marriage, realizing more and more clearly that she longs for a different life. Will the family manage to find a common language in this turmoil?

"Potato Metaphysics" mixes black humor and everyday absurdity with a family drama full of poetic and philosophical memories, myths, ghosts. They are united by the potato - a symbol of Lithuanian identity, survival, and fullness. Perhaps all the answers really lie in the divine simplicity of the potato?

The performance is inspired by the ideas of the philosopher Arvydas Šliogeris, the culture of his hometown Panevėžys, Lithuanian folklore and eternal human dilemmas - city or nature; tradition or modernity; security or liberty; leave or stay.
