THEATRODROME | JULIET | GABRIELA MUÑOZ (MEXICO) This visual one-woman performance of physical theater and clowning deals with the rupture between youth and old age. Gabriela Muñoz, the creator of the play, was inspired to create this play by her grandmother. The main character, Julieta, explores the different stages of life and how our self-image changes over the years, whether Julieta is getting ready to go on a date with her favorite singer on TV, cutting pictures in half to fit exactly where she wants, smoothing out wrinkles with adhesive band, or doing exercise while skiing while smeared with olive oil. Gabriela Muñoz, creator and performer of the show, says: “There is little talk about old age. I loved being with my grandmother Juliet and feeling her every step as she said goodbye to this earthly phase of her life. I saw her, at the age of 83, with a group of "jazz widows" friends, as they called themselves, go to the beauty salon to drink rum and coke and smoke cigars, I looked into her eyes behind thick glasses and it was fun to watch her blink according to moving her lips to the melody as she puts her little hand out the window to see what the weather is like and then decides what to wear, I could hear her playing the piano perfectly, no longer remembering who she was. Julieta is a free, fun, creative, proud and flirtatious soul, a generous woman who taught me a lot about the life I would like to have one day. Inspired by the life of my grandmother Juliet, this work transcends the boundaries of straight narrative to contain humor and to convey the nuances of life to the fullest.
