"The God of Slaughter" is one of the most famous modern plays by the French writer, playwright and actress Yasmina Reza. She conquered the Broadway and West End stages and won the prestigious Tony and Laurence Olivier awards. This work is recognized all over the world as one of the most successful comedies of the last decades, and its famous film adaptation was created in 2011 by the legendary director Roman Polański.
The plot of the play tells about two couples who meet to solve a purely domestic conflict - their children fought and one of the teenagers was injured. Although the meeting of the adults begins in a friendly, tolerant and civilized atmosphere, the children's dispute quickly becomes nothing more than a catalyst. The parents' own internal crises, deeply hidden alienation, loneliness and long-repressed aggression begin to surface. The masks of politeness fall, and a peaceful conversation turns into a real existential drama.
This is a sharp satire about modern society and a psychological comedy, the main weapon of which is irony and biting sarcasm. An intellectual but at the same time painfully open spectacle of human existence exposes the illusoryness of the cultural facades of our civilization and will undoubtedly make every viewer think about the eternal values of life.
