This year, Vilnius City Dance Theater "Low Air" celebrates its 15th anniversary of creative activity and invites you to celebrate together. August 20 the audience is waiting for the exceptional dance performance "Vienudu" (author of the idea and concept - Airida Gudaitė, co-creators - Laurynas Žakevičius and Rokas Šaltenis). Composer and electronic music creator Agnė Matulevičiūtė and pianist, performer and music curator will perform live music in the performance. Marta Finkelstein.
VIENUDU The dance performance "Vienudu" by Airida Gudaitė, the author of the idea and concept - the duet of dancers Laurynas Žakevičius and Roko Šaltenis is constructed as a dialogue with another, although essentially with oneself. While researching the movements of break dance and their flow, juxtaposing it with Lithuanian folk dance, we are looking for a physical, tangible form for the male dancer's identity to spread. By becoming mirror images of each other, in today's world of norms, prejudices and stereotypes, one tries to look back at oneself, firmness in sensitivity, feeling oneself in the other and in the other, duality. Vienudu is an artistic exploration of the canons of hip-hop dance identity that invites artists and audiences to explore breaking as an art form. The performance provides an opportunity to reflect on the concept of a world without borders through cultural connections, bearing in mind the migration of art and cultural forms. The Western masculinist dance form break is juxtaposed and linked with the movement codes of the Lithuanian folk dance. Artists ask: what kind of men are we, what does this dance tell us when we go on stage and what is it like when we participate in fights, sports competitions, such as the Olympics? The emerging discourses of appropriation and homogeneity also touch on the ethical issues of the use of images. Creative explorations of this field of art and the stories of its origin invite mutual dialogue beyond the performance. AGNĖ MATULEVIČIŹĖ AND MARTA FINKELŠTEIN The joint duet of composer Agnė Matulevičiūtė and pianist Marta Finkelštein has been operating since 2021, when they found a commonality by combining piano and analog / modular synthesizers. The duo, which has no analogues in its composition in Lithuania, reveals the diverse possibilities of today's expression, when elements of acoustic and electronic music are combined, and attention is concentrated on the expression of keyboard instruments. The field of Agnė's creative interests includes performance, theater, cinema and interdisciplinary projects, and at the same time she is an active performer under the pseudonym Agnès M. Meanwhile, Marta has accumulated many years of experience in contemporary music performance and music curation. The different profiles and experiences of both creators, connected by the commonality of musical ideas, meaningfully complement each other. The duo's second album, "Dear, Dear", was presented in April 2024, received a lot of attention from the cultural field and earned the creators a nomination from the Lithuanian Composers' Union for the best work of the year. The program was broadcast on the radio channel LRT KLASIKA, and a special video version was presented on the LRT digital platform. "Dear, Dear" received numerous invitations to appear on influential Lithuanian experimental and interdisciplinary platforms, such as "Jauna muzika", "Audra", "Plartforma", "Niche", Kintos Music Festival, Sapiegi Palace. in 2026 at the beginning of the Vilnius international film festival "Kino pavasaris" presented a new version of this program together with St. Kristoforos Chamber Orchestra - the performance opened the festival on the stage of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater. This autumn Dear, Dear opens its international stage with performances in Vienna and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
