"Some places are like people: some shine and some don't" - quoting a classic. Hotel "Les Moires" is the only shining point in a radius of many kilometers. Far from the popular tourist trails, it exists as if there is no time, it does not age, it does not get younger, it just exists. It is said that time passes faster high in the mountains, although such differences are not noticeable to humans. Although Les Moires itself does not experience time, the fates of its inhabitants accelerate in comparison to what is happening closer to the ground. The fact that this acceleration is observable defies any laws of classical physics. Minutes and seconds seem to be more compressed in time, so that there are more of them in one day and one night than a simple clock would measure. In the suspiciously accelerating time, a certain property of the physical world is also accelerating, which could be called the quanta of events.
What does the term "quantum" mean? The word quantum means "how much" in Latin. In physics, a quantum describes the smallest portion that any physical quantity can have or change in a unit event. Simply put, a quantum is a portion that cannot be divided. The cake cannot be cut endlessly. There is the smallest possible piece that can be served to a guest.
Life is made up of quanta of events. Events happen one after the other, lining up in a certain story. The multiplicity of phenomena, feelings and connections converges in a story that breaks into the past, the present and the unknown future. We call it life, biography, destiny. Every story is governed by time, which determines that stories become comprehensible. First there is cause, then effect, and action begets reaction. However, when time begins to speed up, it ceases to be time and becomes something whose nature we no longer understand, the multitude of quantum events ceases to be averaged into a reality that can be understood and perceived. culminating in the Les Moires hotel in the Swiss mountains. The physical properties of space and time are disrupted. The hotel guests themselves experience the disturbance. Something begins to change in their memory, attitudes, emotions, desires. Nobody understands what is going on.
Among the guests is the famous German physicist Werner Heisenberg, the author of the uncertainty principle. Isn't the reality of large objects like desks, hotels, and mountains beginning to behave like the reality of elementary particles? According to Heisenberg, particles can only be spoken of roughly, describing their states rather than themselves. Only by changing the mindset of what is an object to what is the state of an object can hotel guests understand what is happening to them and around them. They came to Les Moires to see the world from the perspective of the high mountains. Look for deeper meaning in the big picture. What if this meaning can be found not in enjoying the Swiss landscapes, but in a single quantum: an emotion, an event, a communication?
The dramaturgical study of the performance was supported by Onassis Air.
