The space where the play takes place is an exposition of a contemporary art gallery, where two men are hanging an abstract painting that will soon be seen by visitors. From the first moment, the Spanish creative duo El Conde de Torrefiel (The Count of Torrefiel in Spanish) sets out to expose the mechanism of creating theatrical fiction. Through associations, symmetry of signs and forms, sharp and laconic dramaturgy, hearing the characters' (or maybe their own?) thoughts, a fiction taking on new forms unfolds right in front of the audience's eyes as if in a dream. Or maybe reality?

By firmly and calmly guiding the audience along the chosen path of exploring the relationship between fiction and reality, the creators will reveal that the main component of the theater mechanism is our imagination. And then it will make you question whether, living in the civilization of images, already alienated from their abundance and diversity of expression, we are still able to distinguish fiction from reality.

The famous Spanish creative duo Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert create "The Inner Picture" as "a poetic task that explores the fundamental principles of the concept of fiction, constantly arguing with the law of gravity for which subordinate bodies'.

As coded in the title, this performance is an abstract piece that claims that reality is not as solid, stable and unchanging as we would like it to be. According to the creators, it can transform or split at any moment, if we are faced with a war, a pandemic or a natural disaster. It is a work of visual theater, balancing on the intersection of dream and reality, consciousness and subconsciousness.

The word "reality" appeared in human language relatively recently, just 1000 years ago. The Greeks had no concept to name this phenomenon, and their individual and collective existence was governed by the fantastic logic of myths: stories inspired by inner experiences, whose extraordinary images directly affected the consciousness and helped to orientate in material life. The concept of "reality" was first named by the Romans in order to define the most diverse forms of existing objects and actions, until finally the current concept of reality settled in the semantic field.

With this work, we aim to convey a parallel an image of hard-to-touch history, which reflects what we find between the folds of material life, between all the ruins and roads that ghostly cross existence and uniquely form a pop-surface layer that speaks of people - both individually and collectively.

El Conde de Torrefiel

El Conde de Torrefiel is a Barcelona-based duo of playwrights Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert. Artists seek to understand the connections between the rationality and meaning of things determined by language, between the abstractness of concepts and their imaginary or symbolic relationship with the image. The creators are looking for visual and textual aesthetics, where theater, choreography, literature and visual arts coexist. Currently focusing on the 21st century and the current relationship between the personal and the political. Their theater restores the fourth wall in order to return to collective sensibility: the creators try not to affect the audience physically, but to move them emotionally, to return the role of an active witness and to make the audience as aware as possible of their own sensations and impressions when experiencing the works. The theater of Tania Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert speaks about the modern world, but does not form dogmatic thinking and does not encourage detailed political analysis, because, according to them, "works must open with questions and not end with postulates." It is a theater of emotions, poetry, the present, where subjectivity can freely exist in the face of the ambiguities of modern collective life.
