The city was drowning in twilight and the feeling was so strange. Some kind of gray fog, as if invisible, but you constantly feel it, even when you breathe. And everything around seems polluted. I don't even know how to explain. All the buildings are the same, all the streets are the same, the people look so similar... And everything is so gloomy. They seem to have done something to our air... Hell, this is my town, I know it well, but they have brought the smell of death here.

quote from the play

The city we live in is our extended personal space, which is as big as we are able to go around, see, and think about every day. These are our chosen streets, squares, benches, cafes - places where we feel safe and cozy. But what happens when the arteries of the beloved city are torn apart by the tanks of the occupying army?

The creators of Kharkiv (Nafta Theater) with the director Nina Khyzhna at the forefront of the documentary performance "Today no one died" open up the traumas of their city, themselves and collective Ukraine. Movement, physical experience and physical presence with the audience play an important role in the performance. The music for the performance was composed by composer Nick Acorne.

"Today nobody died" is a work based on the stories, reflections and insights of Ukrainian soldiers, volunteers and creators of the performance about internal transformations, revaluation of values, perception of time and space and a sense of belonging.

Telling their own and others' personal stories, Ukrainians reflect on the experiences that the war has forced them into: the nearness of death, the constant search for a safe place, anger, fatigue, living in strange places and endless disputes with defenders of pacifism. Reacting to the ideas of "peace at any price", detachment and "war fatigue" prevailing in Western European society, they publish a manifesto:

"We don't know how long this will last a war, who will come home, who will survive and what will be the cost of our freedom. We did not plan to become soldiers, volunteers, medics or leave home. We did not choose this war, but we must win it. This play was created to give a voice to our friends who are now risking their lives to defend what we love.”
