Girevik is a modern circus performance featuring a man and two hundred kilogram weights. The performer of the Girevik performance engages in a physical exchange with iron weights. Responding to the objects' suggestions, he forces his body to assume new shapes with each movement. The artist travels through a territory defined by obstacles, constantly risking reaching a dead end. Face-to-face with his own vulnerability, he plows to make his solid cast iron bodies move. Precisely, gently, sincerely - he rearranges heavy piles of weights again and again. This fragile play turns into an ever-expanding composition depicting effort and collapse. The Girevik force invades the traditional Strongman archetype and wrestles it into submission. Dismantled strength sheds the burden of stereotypes.
This show explores what is strong and what "strong" means in our nature, exploring the subtleties, revealing the emotional, intellectual and psychological dimensions. This work challenges the historical aura of hypermasculinity with weights and seeks an alternative poetics of work.
