TRANS/MISSIONS Balticum 2024" festival presents: Daugavpils theater tour performance - William Shakespeare's MACBETH 16+1 hour 20 minutes Performance in English with comments in Russian Premiere: 2023 November 22 A world classic outside the canons of classical theatre, the story of the lust for power that poisons the mind and sinks deep into the abyss of inhumanity, told through a synthesis of sound, movement and Shakespeare's language. The sweet taste of power, promised to Macbeth by the witches, slowly darkens his mind, and when the first dagger is already stained with blood, it becomes clear that there is no turning back, and each step brings Macbeth closer to self-destruction. The show reflects the terrible path of human transformation - how a person gradually becomes a tyrant, how power obtained by violence and the desperate efforts to maintain it plunges a person into the depths of paranoia, guilt, fear and complete madness. Director Oleg Shaposhnikov emphasizes that it is not witchcraft that is responsible for the terrible deeds of the hero: "It is a person's choice to allow evil into himself and let it flourish or to resist the dark forces." That's what the play is about, the internal struggle that everyone is involved in, but Macbeth loses the battle.'' to creative researcher Paul Goodwin. The performance is supported by the representative office of the British Council in Latvia. About the festival: The international festival "Trans/Misijos Balticum" has already established itself in the world of Lithuanian culture, standing out for its uniqueness and identity among other events in the country. The uniqueness of this festival is the ability to combine the cultures of different countries, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine and Lithuania, which, despite their diversity, share a common history. The word "Trans/Missions" symbolizes the idea that art is a universal language that can be transmitted between different cultures and societies, and to create a sense that we are all part of a larger narrative, rather than a separate, disconnected nation. This event, which emphasizes Lithuania's multiculturalism, is able to combine various cultures, reflecting the historical and cultural diversity of the region. During the festival, an exhibition of contemporary Polish theater posters, other personal exhibitions, concerts, and performances presenting the cultures of different countries are traditionally held. Organizers: Art gallery "Fojė" and Vilnius Polish Theater "Studija".
