A two-part drama performance

The play "Russian novel" written in Russian by the modern Lithuanian dramaturgy leader Marius Ivaškevičius is an important event at the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures. in 2017 this play won the most important Russian theater award "Golden Mask" as the best dramaturgy performed in Russia that year (Moscow Vladimir Mayakovsky Theater, directed by Mindaugas Karbauskis). It is being built for the first time in Lithuania.

M. Ivaškevičius's play tells about the desperate struggle that raged in the family of the Russian classicist Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) a few months before the writer's death. O. Koršunovas skillfully constructs a play from a fantastically rich play by M. Ivaškevičius. At the request of the director, the playwright expanded one of the main roles - Chertkov, who is also a real historical person. This is a man who became a family friend of the Russian classicist Leo Tolstoy, gained the writer's complete trust, became his "man - secret weapon" and turned the writer's family life into hell in the last years of his life. The main victim of this intrigue was Tolstoy's wife Sofya Andreyevna.

Tolstoy is not in the play or in this performance. National award-winning actress Nelė Savichenko plays here for two - both the invisible writer and his wife, a fantastically strong woman tormented by passions and boundless love. If Anton Chekhov had mentioned that in one of his plays there are "three piles of love", then in this play by M. Ivashkevich about Leo Tolstoy there are all three hundred piles of passionate, reckless, inhuman, all-creating and all-destroying female love, and all this weight rests on the shoulders of Nele Savichenko's character (and therefore on the actress herself). And she expertly lifts it.

Playwright M. Ivaškevičius and leader of Lithuanian theater direction Oskars Koršunovas saw in the character of L. Tolstoy's wife and presented the female characters of the writer's works (primarily - Anna Karenina) features. "This performance will be a striking phenomenon," director O. Koršunovas said before the premiere. - While working here, I found out that the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theater has a particularly strong troupe of actors, capable of performing both complex stage tasks and excellent "solo parts". This is also what happened to me with this play, as it always happens with Ivaškevich's dramaturgy: you begin to realize how good a play he has created, only when you put it on the theater stage. That was the case with his Expulsion, and it is the same here. After all, modern drama is not only what the playwright creates now. The real modern drama is that which is being created now, and which gives the impetus, dictates to our whole theater the example of a new stage language. It really exists in this play by Ivaškevičius".

We warn you that smoking is allowed on stage during the performance.

Premiere of the play - 2018 September 15.
