Awarded the Golden Cross of the Stage (Best Choreography of the Year, 2013)
Have you ever wondered why do we miss our childhood home? Why are we so eager to return to them? This performance is a return to the space of childhood, full of unanswered questions.
"Journey Home" combines different fields of art: dance, acting, music and literature. The axis of the play is the relationship between parents and adult children and the efforts to talk about what is painful, hidden, but true - what we don't dare or know how to tell each other.
The stage sounds live music and tell two stories that fit in one house. The first is the concept of freedom and love based on the short story "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by the American writer Richard Bach. The second is the theme of guilt and lack of communication, which was explored by the creators of the play while sharing their personal experiences during rehearsals and became the subject of a play by the young Lithuanian playwright Mindaugas Nastaravičius.
According to the director Vidos Bareikis, "The journey home ” is a performance about childhood home, trying to think about what it is, when we leave it and why we return: “Although I live only a few kilometers away from my parents, I very often think, why is that "journey home" so difficult? Where does this misunderstanding and differences between parents and children come from? What if we sat down one day and talked about everything? Like the closest people," asks the director of the play.
The play vividly expresses the position of not only the children, but also the parents who are left alone at home. If adult children speak in dance, then parents speak in organic texts of M. Nastaravčias, asking: "It's easy for you to leave. You can leave everything behind and drive away. And then suddenly come back and say - good evening, here we are, did you miss me? And what should we do? Sit and wait?".
