"Atžalyn" written by Kazio Binkis in 1938 in the center - a young man innocently accused. Even when he is despised, he does not renounce his values, he does not stop believing in life and other people. It is a moody, suggestive drama, filled with the optimism of interwar Lithuania and the willingness to sacrifice - values ​​that are so lacking today.

In the words of the director Jonas Vaitkaus, this piece can become spring rain in today's theater - turned away from fundamental values, inclined towards destruction and denial. The director invited not only experienced actors to act in the play, but also students of the acting course of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, which he himself directs. "Atžalynas" interpreted by such an enthusiastic creative team is a great opportunity to rediscover classical Lithuanian dramaturgy.

Director Jonas Vaitkus: Today it makes sense to return to certain things in which the spirit of values ​​has been preserved. Maybe from our point of view it looks simple, overly sincere, primitively sentimental, but behind the words that are spoken in this piece, there is some brilliance. I want to return to the cleanliness that is in Atžalyne. But there is also a destructive element in this material. It is touched on very slightly in this play, but it shows the "stepping" of progress and anti-progress - technical progress and spiritual anti-progress - and that is exactly what we are seeing now. These "scissors" show that now exactly those hints of destructiveness have flourished so much that "Atžalynas" can be like a spring rain on the stage today. In this production, I aim for documentary, and from the actors - an inner feeling. It is important that they have clear attitudes, worldliness, the ability to seriously delve into a person - not a complex, broken, scattered, crushed, not understanding himself, living on instincts between money and sensual passions, but a person who has hope, a perspective, who believes that human life is the greatest value. Only then, looking at life - from birth to the last breath - do you begin to realize how late, how late people understand all this: they are afraid to live, feel and be responsible for their lives. When I read a clean "poem" - which is "Atzhalynas" - these things become necessary: ​​both for us and for the people who work on this play.
