With the play "Viktor, or Children in Power", director Gintaras Varnas aims to continue the series of surrealist theater that he started a long time ago (Federico García Lorca's If Five Years Passed, The Audience, Sombra, Guillaume Apollinaire's The Breasts of Teiresias, etc.). The criticism of society reflected in the work became the biggest directorial inspiration. According to the director, it could be like a kind of chamber variation of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".
The director speaks out against primitivization and modernization in the theater and with his play raises the question whether a small person does not have the right to destroy the prevailing stereotypical established order of society. According to him, it is witty of the 20th century. a satirical parable of the 1930s about the family and the false and hypocritical, cowardly and bourgeois world of "welfare" created by parents, which is destroyed with pleasure by rebellious little anarchist, nihilist, hooligan children, so you have to believe that today, in the 21st century. in the thirties, it should sound new.
Roger Vitrac (1899-1952) is a French surrealist writer, playwright and poet. The developer was born in Pinsak in 1910. moved to Paris. 1922-1928 participated in surrealist activities, published the Dada manifesto, published the magazine "Aventure" and contributed to the first editions of "La Révolution Surréaliste". founded the Alfred Jarry Theater, where he wrote some of his most important surrealist plays. The play "Viktor, or Children in Power" was the second work of Vitrac and Artaud. It premiered in Paris at the Comédie des Champs-Elysées on December 24, 1928, Christmas Eve.
When creating this play, Artaud and Vitrac dreamed of a theater of virtual reality, opposed to the banally linear, narrative Western to the theater tradition. The play shows the phantasmagorical celebration of the ninth birthday of the two-meter son of Viktor, Polis and Emili Pomeli. During all three acts, provocative scenes alternated with each other and confirmed the statements of Artaud's manifesto: "The audience, coming to our theater, will feel that they are participating in a real action, in which not only the mind but also the feelings and the body work. Henceforth they will go to the theater as to the surgeon or the dentist - with the same spirit; of course, they won't die, but the theater is a serious business, and they won't come out of it safe... They need to know that we can make them cry".
Surrealist play "Viktor, or Children in Power" - absurd a satire close to the theater, ridiculing the conformism of the bourgeoisie, language clichés that mask secret hatred and cruelty. The work ironically undermined the prevailing stereotypical view of marriage, religion, the supposed order contrary to logic, directed against the morality of the bourgeois middle class, family institute or society in general.
