Paulius Tamolė: "Pommerat's Little Red Riding Hood" is about a little girl, about her loneliness. Do we, as parents, wonder how much our children are alone, lacking the attention of loved ones? How does loneliness affect a child? What is the relationship between children and parents in general? What do we call children's independence? This tale is about the meeting of three generations. Daughter, mother and grandmother are talking here. Our fears, complexes or strangers are the wolf's "incarnate" character. All this is hidden in this authentic work, the fable of which came from the original Red Riding Hood. The play is very clean: when you read it, you realize that it has been written as much as is necessary. On the other hand, that laconic and specific language gives great freedom to the imagination.
I am raising a five-year-old daughter Elsa, she is my Little Red Riding Hood. Ideas and thoughts come from watching her and interacting with her. The stories of little girls remain the same as they were in the time of the Brothers Grimm, only the context has changed. We will try to talk about him with the audience during the performance.
I imagine a theater for the family. After all, children usually come to children's performances with their parents. I really want them all to enjoy their time together at the theater. In the information age, it is important that the lightning-fast time stops even for a moment in the theater. It is important to find a place and time to continue communicating with the child after the performance, to share thoughts about what he saw, what he felt, how he understood and what he learned."
Joël Pommerat was born in 1963 in Rouen. After playing in a local theater troupe since the age of 18, he started writing texts for the theater in 1986. Playwright's plays are staged in various countries of the world. Since 2010, Mr. Pommerat has worked at the Odeon Theater as well as the Belgian National Theatre. In 2014, Philippe Quesne and Nathalie Vimeux invited J. Pommerat to the Nanterre-Amandiers Association of Theater Artists.
J. Pommerat has received more than 15 national and international awards. In 2015, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Théâtre by the French Academy, and in 2016 he received the "New Theater Reality" award.
