Inspired by Dalia Grinkevičiūtė's work "Lithuanians by the Sea of Laptev"
p>Sūnus, who is studying film art abroad, receives the task of creating a documentary outline and, with some hesitation, chooses his family - Mother, Father and Sister - as its characters. When he returned to his native Kaunas, a real treasure awaits him - a Museum employee invites the family to get acquainted with the manuscript of his father's aunt's memories of his exile in Siberia, which was recently discovered in the garden of his grandparents' house. The boy begins to slowly explore not only the manuscript that has been lying underground for fifty years, but also his family's past and realizes how it shapes his family relationships in the present.
Although E. Švedkauskaitė creates a fictional family of characters in the play, it is also based on real facts. : 1991 In Žaliakalni, Kaunas, Perkūnos al. 60 was a jar that was accidentally dug up, in which were found separate leaves with Dalia Grinkevičiūtė's memories about Siberia. The manuscript is considered lost, because Grinkevičiūtė herself tried to look for it several decades ago, but could not find it. The work of Dalia Grinkevičiūtė is not only one of the most influential works of Lithuanian literature, part of the school curriculum, but it is also translated into fifteen languages. It is an impressive work of art about the preservation of humanity in inhumane conditions, in the words of the author herself, "a monument to the victims of the North". and the characters' feelings and thoughts. In this performance, we aim to depict the need of a young person to ask parents about family history, to analyze the experiences of the older generation. The stage action is led forward by a young creator who represents the so-called therapeutic generation, which is very eager to talk and "solve" relationships, to feel the security that knowledge provides. Perhaps it is only natural that we, who have grown up in a world of open sharing, democratic order and technology, ask questions, but often questions about the past and trying to evaluate it turn into confrontation. The relationship with the parents is very important in this performance, and it is also important that young people are interested in exile, who do not see this event as a museum exhibit, but want to understand how they would act in such a situation, whether they would be able to survive", says the director and dramaturg of the performance, Eglė Švedkauskaitė. .
The performance is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania
