Krystian Lupa's film "The Hideout" is based on his own play based on F. Kafka's "The Process", staged by Novy Teatr in Warsaw (premiere 15.11.2017). The show came as the political climate in Poland heated up to extremes over an unprecedented judicial reform by the ruling Law and Justice party. Novyj Teatr and TR Warszawa, led by two of his students, directors Krzysztof Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna, joined forces for the production of K. Lupa's "Proceso". "The Process" was created as a theatrical response to political processes in the country.
"How to live in a country where there is all-encompassing emptiness and shame?" is the fundamental question asked in Lupa's "Process". How to live in a reality that cannot be changed by any protests? How to remain human and not to destroy yourself, not to turn into a patient? By raising such questions, Lupa, together with like-minded actors, sought to help Polish society fight against "all-embracing emptiness and shame", to dare to open locked doors...
The second act of the play "Procesas" became the basis of the film "Slęptuvė" actors' improvisations. Once inside the courthouse, Kafka enters a dungeon similar to a mental hospital ward. Franz Kafka himself, his fiancee Felicia Bauer (breakup with her inspired Kafka to write The Trial), their mutual friend Greta Bloch, and the writer's best friend and biographer Max Brod are imprisoned there. Gradually, their communication turns into a performance, in which the characters are no longer involved, but actors naked in front of the audience. The theater becomes an illusory hiding place for them...
CAUTION. Late viewers are not allowed to watch the film. The film is shown in Polish with Lithuanian and English subtitles. Spectators who have purchased a ticket for the February 8 or 9 performance of "Enchanted Mountain" can attend the screening for free by picking up a free movie ticket. A free movie ticket is obtained by selecting the desired seat in the hall and entering the barcode of the performance ticket into the discount coupon box. The performance ticket is not a movie ticket and does not guarantee a seat at the movie screening. The number of places is limited.
