The question is raised by one of the brightest and most interesting theater directors of the young generation, Justinas Vinciūnas, in 2025. awarded the "Golden Cross of the Stage" as the best beginner artist. In his creative biography, there are even two plays based on the works of Nobel Prize laureates, a play based on African dramaturgy and a work based on a journalistic chronicle. The creative process of the performance took place while researching the biography of one of the most prominent voices in Danish literature - Tove Ditlevsen and the motifs of her novel "Faces" (1968). These elements became a creative starting point, dictating the dramaturgical axis of the play with their themes. In the center of the action is Lisė Mundus, a creator who is overwhelmed by the reality around her. Sensing that the world around her is beginning to wobble and its concreteness is approaching the border of absurdity, Lise begins to look for a crack - a space where the tension of "being something" is replaced by the longed-for peace of being enough without constant evaluation or the pressure of an alien consciousness. But every step to freedom comes at a price. And usually it is the person next to you. In this performance, the novel's characters gain sovereignty - they become independent from the frame of the "Faces" plot, finding themselves in various situations or sharing thoughts that are as if silenced in the novel. Therefore, the creation of the performance is based on a game in which the character goes beyond the limits of his own words. Also, the autobiographical nature of the novel blurs the line between the author and the character he creates. This spot has become a cornerstone in this performance as well, when the boundary between the character and the performer becomes clearly undefined. These laws invite us to create a strange theatrical language, almost modeled on domestic situations, which seems to invite us to see through the longing for freedom hidden under the obvious reality. "Trukdis" invites viewers to a discussion: what is the price of loyalty to the laws of personal truth? Is confidence in one's sensitivity a creative or a destructive force? And finally, isn't what seems like an obstacle in us an opportunity to rekindle a passion for life that was lost somewhere along the way? The show in 2025 became the winner of the "DramaTest Residency" platform for the search of modern dramaturgy and new stage forms of the State Vilnius Small Theater.
