Believe me, you don't need to open a child's fantasy - it is much, much wider than ours. Therefore, the scenery of a play for children must perform the same function as in a play for adults - to help tell the story. If necessary, it can be three cubes, if necessary - you can build the most real palaces of gold. In this case, the artist Marijus Jacovskis sculpts a simple brick wall, creating an "ordinary" courtyard of a big city, where several ordinary cats live, doing a very extraordinary thing - teaching a seagull to fly...
Today I want a child to watch a play in the theater, follow a story , would understand the actions of the characters, and not just expect songs and dances. The songs are not bad, but now such a cliché of performances for children has formed - from song to song, superficial characters, a lot of play, colors and, God forbid, no sadness! It is not surprising that a child who has watched this looks for the same thing in the theater when he grows up. For him, the theater is just entertainment, a kind of "tabloid reading room" designed to relieve tension. That's all. You want to challenge yourself - first of all - and create a performance for children without those "mandatory" attributes. We'll see what will come of it, but if we don't try to change it now, the theater may lose another generation of viewers.
Of course, after blowing those unnecessary "glitters" from the plot, much more responsibility rests on the shoulders of the actors, much more depends from their craftsmanship, their ability to create "full-blooded" characters...albeit with tails. The small theater employs a mature, very interesting and colorful generation in their thirties, whose ability to act a little "differently" fascinates children no less than me. So why not "experiment" together?...
