The German director Christianas Weise, a talented researcher of urban life, began staging the work on the Lithuanian theater stage. . Like many of T. Williams' works, this one also contains the pains of the author's own personal experience - alcoholism, homosexual nature, trying to establish himself and function in society.
The work takes you to the conservative US southern states environment and focuses attention on an enclosed space - a cotton plantation, where its owner, Daddy, is celebrating his birthday at home. Dad is terminally ill, he just doesn't know it yet. A fight for the inheritance begins among his descendants. Son Guper with his wife Mė and spoiled children play a happy family and for that alone they are worthy of inheritance.
Meanwhile, another son Brikas has already withdrawn from the competition for Daddy's pots of gold. His wife Megė tries to talk him out of it, but his alcoholism and hidden love for his former teammate Kapiton force Brik to give up. However, Megė is a persistent "cat on a hot tin roof", and Dad's own submissiveness to his fallen son also contributes here.
