A legendary work written almost two centuries ago for the first time in Europe, it is performed in a drama performance with music written by composer Sergei Prokofiev. For the first time, "Eugene Onegin" is spoken by the actors of the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theater. And the artists in this performance were entrusted not only with the versed genius text of A. Pushkin, but also choral parts and dances with ballet professionals - dancers of the Baltic Ballet Theater.

A.Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin" - a work written in iambic quatrains or the so-called "Onegin stanzas" - was published in 1833. The novel is not only a well-known story about the arrogant, bored cynic Eugene Onegin, who rejected Tatiana, the deep-hearted woman who fell in love with him, and later the same fate. In the work, the author also presented many philosophical reflections and expressively depicted the society of tsarist Russia. According to Russian literary critic A. Pushkin, "Eugene Onegin" is like the encyclopedia of early Russian life.

S.Prokofiev wrote the music for "Eugene Onegin" in 1937 to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of A.Pushkin's death. from the repertoire and the composer's work disappeared for a long time, and S. Prokofiev "poured" its fragments into his other works, such as "Cinderella" and "War and Peace". The complete work written by the composer, performed by a symphony orchestra, was performed on the stage of the theater for the first time only in 2012 in the United States of America, when the actors' reading of the novel's text was interpreted by dancers. This year, commemorating the 60th anniversary of S. Prokofiev's death, the composer's specially composed music for "Eugene Onegin" will be played for the first time in Europe in a performance of the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theater.

Composer Rita Mačiliūnaitė was awarded the "Golden Cross of the Stage" (2014) for musical compositions created for the performances "Eugenijus Oneginas" (LRDT), "59'Online" and "W(o)men" ("Art Press").
