Choreographer Birutė Banevičiūtė's "World Tree" is a sensory-friendly movement performance for toddlers that will give them the freedom to explore movements, body language, and objects on stage together with the actors. The actors' costumes, which change color and shape, and the details of the scenography in the play encourage babies to move and experience the joy of discovery. And for adults, it's an extraordinary opportunity to see their little ones in a completely different - unusual, artistic environment that awakens children's imagination and develops creativity. A performance without words, so movements become a universal language here.
Or do you think that babies don't need theater because they don't understand anything? B. Banevičiūtė suggests to take a closer look at the possibilities of perception and expression of babies, to abandon stereotypical attitudes, calls for a change in attitude towards the youngest in society.
B. Banevičiūtė constructs the play's dramaturgy based on the joint action of the actors and children-spectators, and the idea of the play is based on the image of the world tree found in the mythology of many nations, whose roots represent the past and the underworld, the trunk - the present and the earthly existence, and the branches - the future and heaven. In Lithuanian mythology, snakes live at the bottom of the tree, people and bees live at the trunk, and birds live in the branches. On stage, during the performance, the actors creatively transform abstract objects of various shapes and textures into mythological attributes of the world tree, leaving space for the little ones to interpret the proposed ideas themselves.
"There is no single correct answer, what babies should understand and how to react during the performance, all their reactions are appropriate and acceptable, so mothers and fathers can relax and not worry if their child does something different from the others," suggests choreographer. According to B. Banevičiūtė, art is special in that it allows the audience to think in their own way, feel in their own way and enjoy it.
A friendly performance - suitable for children with increased sensory sensitivity and disabilities.
Without words - suitable for non-native speakers.
Don't forget - you must take off your clothes when entering the performance space shoes.
