Natalka Vorožbit
"Green Corridors"
Premiere - 2026 December 11, 12.
Performance in Ukrainian with Lithuanian subtitles
Green Corridors - after the start of the war against Ukraine, this was the official name of the roads through which civilians fled from war zones. It is a parable for today, a story about what four women from Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Bucha and Kyiv experience, traveling towards the border of the European Union. Homelessness, the part of the refugee, illusions.
A woman named Europa is waiting for the refugees on the other side of the border. She wants to do good, but... In "Waiting for a new life", conflicts arise between the characters, which are deeply rooted in the history of Ukraine and Europe. Who betrayed what? Who profited from what? Who collaborated with whom? Natalka Vorožbit presents all this as only she can - self-critically, with humor, ironically, from the perspective of ordinary people who find themselves in unenviable situations. In her work, despair is often permeated with black humor, which helps to survive.
N. Vorožbit wrote the play specifically for the Munich Chamber Theater (Münchner Kammerspiele) - it was a joint project with Kyiv's Podolė Theater (Театр на Подоли). Staged in spring 2023 in the same theater in Podolė.
"Living in a time of war in the center of Europe and not noticing the war that is happening nearby? It is wrong from the theater's side. The theater must react. "Green Corridors" is one of the most popular and appreciated performances of the Kammerspiele, which has won many awards, participated in many festivals, and always attracts full halls. The nation is at war, there is something that the Europeans were not prepared for. It is a very interesting experience. We want to talk about it." (Maksym Holenko)
