This is an hour-long cello and dance Boléro compelling a new look at the canonical work.

Dance performance "Boléro" -Extended" is an unusual and original interpretation of one of the most famous works of French composer Maurice Ravel, "Boléro". The easily recognizable melody and its paraphrases are visualized on stage by the dancers of the Šeikos Dance Theater and the performers of the Klaipėda Cello Octet. The original deconstructed music of M. Ravel, performed on stage by one, several or eight cellos at once, sounds unexpected and modern.

Together with the dancers, Danish choreographer Palle Granhøj creates a gallery of portraits of personalities in restrictive circumstances, revealing the unique qualities of each troupe dancer and adding them to the musical fabric and interpretation of the performance. The choreographer aims to highlight the human being on the stage, instead of exhibiting the plasticity of the dancers and the characteristics of the choreography, Mr. Granhøjus aims to reveal men and women on the stage as they are: real, alive and complex.

The idea to perform one of M. Ravel's "Boléro" for the orchestra live with only cellos was born at the Klaipėda International Cello Festival and Competition to the initiator Mindaugas Bačkas, and thanks to the long-term cooperation with the Sheiks Dance Theater, this idea turned into a unique dance and live music performance.

Internationally recognized Danish choreographer Palle Granhøj is famous for his original technique of obstruction. It allows the choreographer to transform the movements of the dancers by limiting their actions, thus revealing the inner layers of their personality. In the last 30 years in close cooperation with dancers, he has created about four dozen dance performances. Mr. Granhøj often combines the language of contemporary dance with classical music in his work, and has created performances based on the works of Igor Stravinsky ("Holy Spring") and Gustav Mahler ("2men2mahler" and "Men & Mahler"). Mr. Granhøj is a regular composer for his Aarhus-based troupe, Granhøj Dans, and his work has been presented in 49 countries worldwide.

Klaipėda Cello Octet - this is the 2017 The ensemble is based on the Klaipėda Cello Quartet, which made its debut at the Klaipėda Cello Festival. The creation of both cellist ensembles was initiated by M. Bačkus, one of the most intensively performing cellists and artistic director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, whose musical interests are extremely broad: from baroque to contemporary opus, from traditional to experimental cello sound. The Klaipėda Cello Quartet regularly collaborates with the Šeikos Dance Theater and has already presented several dance and music performances created together, including "Times of the Year" (2017) and "My Peter Pan" (2018).
