Olovs Enquist's play "The Hour of the Lynx" (St. "I Lodjurets timma") is an exciting drama of the soul, analyzing what madness is, faith, who a person is and what he is capable of, exploring the human psyche, the subconscious.
The main thread of the performance is the blurred boundaries between sanity and madness, normality and social fringes. The director raises the question, when and how does a decisive turning point occur and a person indulges in cruelty, crime, madness? There is a clear intention to analyze the nature of the crime, the origin of mental disorders, to give the viewer the opportunity to rethink their beliefs, fears and encourage dialogue.
The play "The Hour of the Lynx" tells the story of a young guy who finds himself in a psychiatric hospital, in the critical section. The guy tells the young doctor about his childhood, his complicated life story. The research team is conducting an experiment with the patients of this department - some of them are allowed to raise pets and take care of them. The main character of the play learns that the experiment is being stopped - he will be deprived of his best friend, a cat.
What does it mean to grow up in a family without love and how does it affect the psychological state of a young person? How does the effect of lack of love, rejection develop as a child grows up? How responsible are we as a society for crime and can we spot the defining moment before disaster strikes? Is what we think we know, and what is instilled in us from early childhood, always true?
The Lynx Hour can provide a unique perspective that encourages empathy and understanding. The form of the performance is dreamy, surreal, mystical. The director aims to return the play of dreams and fantasy to the theater, in order to allow one to break away from reality.
