Poetry performance based on the verses of the poet Valdemar Kukulos
"Word. Pause - that's it. I have no more,
What I can say in words.
Only the sky and the sky, and both silver
Glows in the ashen hair.”
Poet Valdemaras Kukulas
(1959-2011)
"When the iron of pain cools down,
Open your eyes to the color of the sky and the earth -
Like an angel moving away from you,
You could see the golden head of age."
Poet Algirdas Verba,
Friend of Valdemars Kukulos
(1941-2000)
Rolandas Kazlas, author and director of the staging of the play "Everything you don't have":
"One of the books of the poet and literary critic Valdemars Kukul, in which he reviews and reflects on Lithuanian poetry and literature, is called "The End of the Era of Spirited Words". When you delve into the poetry of Valdemar Kukul himself, his attitude in his work, the poet himself seems like the guardian of that era of great-spirited words, songs. The keeper, nurturer and creator of those words, as if a descendant of some vanished, noble civilization, a hero of the times when giants still lived, a hero who wandered into this era, sang, sang, chanted and mourned it, us and the future us, this land and this world , this earth and this sky and having left again to that Great Spirituality, which he so lacked, which he sought with such devotion in this life, in his creation, in this increasingly spiritless time.
The performance "Everything you don't have" is, of course, intended primarily for fans of the poet Valdemars Kukulos and at the same time for all lovers of Lithuanian poetry, because this poet, who remained faithful to poetry until the very end, is one of the most interesting, who gave all of himself to his work... Reading his poems, you feel the painful, beautiful voice of a lonely poet and human being, which contains all human colors. In the poet's own words:
"Your loneliness and your fullness:
Lost everything - full of everything."
The poet's poems is essentially the main character and text of the play. I tried to listen, empathize with them: what states, moods can be felt, discovered in them. In the end, it was interesting to try to use stage means to give the lines such colors and shadows that you might not suspect just by reading the written words.
I am happy to have the opportunity to touch the work of this extraordinary poet. I sincerely thank Valdemar Kukul's wife Deimante for her help and trust. I am grateful to the Vilnius theater "Lėlė" and its team for the opportunity to work there again after a long break. in 2009 in this theater I created my first poetry performance "Iron and Silver" based on the verses of the poet Vladas Šimkaus. By the way, the play is still alive, it is performed and it still receives a beautiful and large audience. An interesting coincidence - Vladas Šimkus and Valdemaras Kukulas were good friends and even neighbors. So I hope that their friendship and neighborhood will continue in the repertoire of this theater as well. You are the arena,
Which it succeeds in crossing,
What goes the sharpest edge!”
Poet Vladas Šimkus
(1936–2004 m.)
"Give, God, to you too
Such a good life,
Give, God, to everyone,
p>
Ah, everyone should live like this..."
Poet Valdemaras Kukulas,
Vlad Šimkaus' neighbor
