Puppet grotesque for adults "King Ubu"
Based on Alfred Jarry's play
"King Ubas" by the pioneer of the theater of the absurd Alfred Jarry - a chrestomatous work in the history of the puppet theater - "Puppet" has not yet been staged. It was also undertaken for the first time by one of the most famous creators and pedagogues of contemporary European puppet theater - director, actor and artist from the Netherlands - Neville Tranteris, working together with four actors of the "Puppet" theater and well-known creators of Lithuanian theater - composer Faustus Latėnas and playwright Vaiva Grainyte .
It is simply inevitable that the grotesque characters of "King Ubu" who came to life in the Small Hall of the "Doll" and strive for power and control in absurd ways will clash with the political events of today's world. However, as the director emphasizes, the most important thing in this play is the relationship between people: Pa Ubu and Ma Ubu are husband and wife, and there is also a 14-year-old teenager who doesn't want to be king... So in a humorless Muppet puppet show the audience will be invited to laugh not only at the characters they see, but also with them.
Neville Tranter is the founder, leader and only permanent member of the original Stuffed Puppet Theatre, which creates plays for adults and children with muppets 's-type dolls, which they call the best actors. The works of this artist are characterized by an individual, recognizable style of work, for which he has been recognized many times with awards at international festivals in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Croatia and elsewhere.
