"Golden apple tree, wine well" - one of the most beautiful and popular Lithuanian fairy tales. This is a magical story about an Orphan oppressed by a Stepmother. As in every fairy tale of this type, there are plenty of obstacles from evil: the wicked witch and her daughters torment the maiden by giving her impossible tasks, but good, with the help of magical powers, wins in the end and the Orphan is freed and married by a young King at the end of the tale.

The creators of the show were impressed by the possibility of using video theater forms in this production, which belong more to the art of cinema than to theater. Although there are a lot of folk songs and verses in the tale, in the play the story is created more with images. The audience will see such various visual theater tools popular since the time of Ancient Greece as panoramas, mirioram, diaoram, thaumatrope, laterna magica, mirioram cards, as well as shadow theater.

For the first time I staged this fairy tale in the society of stage lovers "Theatrical Initiatives" (premiere 18.12.1997). Then I also created scenography. Dainius Vengelis, the actor of the Vilnius "Old Town Theater" who performed this one-man performance as marionettes at the end of 2009. Master's degree at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, based on that play he created his graduation play (set designer Neringa Keršulytė). Returning to this tale in The Puppet, I relied on a collection of spectacles and optical metamorphoses used by puppeteers several centuries ago (mechanical theater, diorama, miriorama, moire, Jacob's ladder, Laterna magica, etc.).
