Most probably everyone knows what marionettes are. These are the puppets that act in the theater and that move, pulled by strings by the puppeteers. Different countries have their own special marionettes.
Lithuanian marionettes are special because they were created by the famous pre-war artist Stasys Ušinskas. He also founded the first professional puppet theater in Lithuania and created the first puppet movie "The Fat Dream".
S. Ušinskas created the first performance with his puppets based on the play "Silvestras Dūdelė" by the writer Antanas Gustaitis. This is a story similar to the fairy tale about Dr. Dolittle and about Aiskaud.
The play features Silvestras Dūdelė himself and his maid Barborėlė, as well as Katinas Murkelis, Vištelė Kikirėke, Ozys Barzdelaitis, Šunelis Lapkus and others. During the performance, children not only watch the story of Silvestro Dūdeles, but also see excerpts from the movie "The Fat Man's Dream", hear words from S. Ušinskas's book about the marionette theater.
Ms. Olga and Mr. Irmants tell the audience about the magical S . Ušinska marionettes, reads excerpts from his (the only in Lithuania, and perhaps in the world) marionette management textbook.
