Lithuanian premieres. SAUCISSON | So the Circus
What happens when everything we are used to becomes unmanageable, absurd, and eventually disappears? When we are used to watching, we feel watched. After getting used to following instructions, suddenly we no longer understand their language. After getting used to the answering machine, suddenly we have to answer. Acting in secret, they become visible to a thousand eyes. Those who hold their lives in their hands realize that they are touching a sausage.
And finally, we become a sausage ourselves, casually dropped on someone's table.
Elena Kosovec and Izabela Kuzelytė's contemporary circus performance SAUCISSON embodies absurdity, the play of exalting and subverting circus techniques and the tension of beauty and disgust, mercilessly deconstructing stereotypes surrounding the body on stage. The action of the performance takes place in a world where an object considered sacred loses the symbolic meanings assigned to it by society, pleasure is intertwined with fear, and the verticality of the rope is distorted, turning into a knot in the viewer's stomach.
Combining theatre, aerial acrobatics, dance and operatic singing, the performance SAUCISSON - with a sounding French name meaning "sausage" in Lithuanian - was born from the absurdity of life experienced by the creators and his reflections on the paradoxes of everyday life. In 2024, SAUCISSON became the winner of the Circus Next platform.
