Complications and their retreatment are common occurrences in dentistry, so knowledge of managing these cases is of utmost importance.
This lecture will provide dentists with surgical and implant protocols with a realistic, open and practical overview of possible complications in oral surgery and implantology, how to overcome them, achieving successful and predictable treatment results and, if necessary, re-treatment methods.
Case studies and treatment options will be used to illustrate strategies for managing complications.
The lecture is designed as a short guide to the diagnosis, prevention and management of complications in oral surgery and implantology. It will show how to avoid errors in the surgical and implantation processes and how to manage complications.
The aim of the lecture is to understand the mechanics of these errors, to help the clinician create a more reliable treatment plan and to reduce the fear of possible complications.
Pre-operative complications
Intraoperative complications of implantation
Patch design; Improper implant angulation; Too deep/superficially placed implant; Damage to adjacent teeth; Nerve damage; Bleeding; Bone overheating during drilling; Excessive screwing force and necrosis due to compression; Perforation of the sinus floor; Partial or complete insertion of the implant into the maxillary canthus; Insertion of the implant into the maxillary or neural canal; Aspiration or ingestion of foreign bodies; Fracture of the implant; Fracture of the lower jaw; Insufficient primary stability; Bleeding when making an incision and opening the patch; Perforation of the sinus membrane during lifting during;Insufficient membrane lift;Presence of mucosal cysts;Obstruction of maxillary sinus;Unstable implants.
Post-operative complications
Post-operative pain;Tissue emphysema caused by dental procedures;Open cap during healing ;Bone growth on the lid.
Complications related to the sinuses of the lateral window with elevation
Acute graft infection/sinusitis;Chronic infection/sinusitis;All sinus/intracranial infections;Delayed migration of the implant into the sinus cavity.

Complications and Management of Complications, Retreatment of Failures in Implant Dentistry and Oral Surgery
Complications and their retreatment are frequent occurrences in dental practice and knowledge of the management of such cases is essential.
This lecture will provide the dentist with surgical and implant protocols with a realistic, honest and practical overview of possible complications in dental surgery and implantology, how to overcome them with successful and predictable management outcomes, and retreatment that may be necessary and indicated.
Case documentation and treatment options will be used to illustrate complication management strategies.
The presentation is designed as a brief guide to the diagnosis, prevention and management of complications in dental surgery and implant dentistry. It will demonstrate how to prevent errors in surgical and implant procedures and how to manage complications.
The goal of the lecture is to understand the mechanics of these errors and to enable the clinician to formulate a more predictable treatment plan and to reduce the fear of possible complications.
