We invite you to 🥒 CUCUMBER FERMENTING CEREMONY 🥒

This non-traditional art workshop for adults and children was inspired by Viltė Fuller's painting exhibition "Žiotys" (curator Justė Kostikovaitė), which is currently taking place in the "Energija" gallery, where food and its rituals become a medium of identity and memory. Viltė's works "Pickle Princes", "Fermentation Corner", "Pickle Martini" and the photo book "Agurkėlių princėsė" seem to demand such a workshop in order to immediately immerse ourselves in the exhibition and extend it.

The cucumber fermentation ceremony will turn into a multi-layered art form, in which food, fermentation and communal existence will become a processual form of expression. Old Lithuanian traditions will meet modern art.

During the workshop we will explore fermentation through procedural and time art, composition and communal ritual. Food as an art form in art history. How do time and bacteria transform the material and its aesthetics? Combining dill inflorescences, garlic (pepper, oak and cherry leaves, etc.?) as a spatial composition. Informal exchange of knowledge, recipes and experiences.

We will take care of the basic materials: cucumbers, salt, water, dill, garlic and jars. If you have a special leavening recipe, you are welcome to bring additional ingredients.

Come alone, with friends or the whole family. Together we will pickle cucumbers, share stories, laugh, get to know art and rediscover the taste and rituals of Lithuanian food.
