Dmitri Kirsanoff was one of the pioneers of silent cinema and French avant-garde impressionism, boldly experimenting with film techniques and non-narrative form. Despite his courage and innovation, Kirsanoff's name has slipped to the margins of the film world, and his contribution to film history is often overlooked. The program of sound and silent short films created by him will be shown for the first time in Lithuania. Among other works, the director's magnum opus "Ménilmontant" (Ménilmontant, 1926) will be shown there, which tells an evocative story about two sisters who are looking for a new life in Paris after the brutal murder of their parents. Due to its expressive filming techniques and innovative editing, the film is considered one of the key masterpieces of silent cinema. N-16 The program will be accompanied by the curator of the festival's musical program, pianist Viktoras Orestas Vagusevičius, who has prepared two pianos for this session - one tuned normally and one specially modified.
