Vidurio Europos vyrai (Skalvija)

"Men of Central Europe" is a project of Aida Čeponytė and Valdas Ozarinskas, the center of which is the everyday style of Lithuanian men. One of the parts of the project is a documentary video material in which artists' friends and colleagues talk about their favorite clothes hanging in their closets and their combinations, commenting on their attitude to fashion and self-expression. Different personalities are revealed in the work, ranging from shy to imposing. This documentary material is an intimate and uncompromising document of the time, the conversations of the creators and characters are combined with gentle self-irony directed at oneself and the phenomenon of masculinity, its local, sometimes comic manifestations, limited cultural and financial opportunities at the time. On the other hand, behind the veil of humor, a sincere desire to look good, the need for individuality, the enjoyment of freedom to make decisions and the feeling of being a participant in the Western world emerge. The presented video material was edited together with the co-author of the work Aida Čeponyte and the project curator, artist Gerda Paliušyte. Vilnius Documentary Film Festival, founded in 2004, is the oldest international documentary film festival in the Baltic States and so far the only one the festival in Lithuania is dedicated only to creative documentaries. The main program consists of the films of recent years, which appeared at the most important documentary festivals. Parallel festival programs are dedicated to author retrospectives and special events. VDFF is a space for meetings and conversations: filmmakers, curators, representatives of authors come to the festival, an event catalog with texts accompanying the films is published.
